How to build a helix

You have 150 seconds of active play. DNA bases always pair A with T and G with C.

  1. Build: Match the template base on the left. Fill the highlighted site on the right.
  2. Repair: Amber sites contain a mutation. Replace the incorrect base with its complement.
  3. Replicate: Repair mismatches, missing bases (?), and damaged bases (×). Click or tap a marked site to select it.

Use the base buttons, A / T / G / C, or 1 / 2 / 3 / 4. Arrow keys select a repair site. Space pauses.

Correct repairs earn 100 points plus a streak bonus of up to 100. Completing a strand earns 200 more. A mistake costs 25 points and resets your streak. An unfinished strand passing the scanner costs 50 points and resets your streak. Your score never falls below zero.

The scanner allows 16, 13, then 10 seconds per strand. The final stage contains more repair sites. Pausing or opening these notes stops both timers.

An educational model: the molecular view and damage repair are simplified for play. Natural DNA repair involves many enzymes.
